Machu Picchu: The New Seven Wonders
Machu Picchu is a breathtaking ancient Inca citadel perched high in the Andes Mountains of Peru, at an altitude of 2,430 meters (7,970 feet). Often referred to as the “Lost City of the Incas,” it was built in the 15th century under the reign of the Inca emperor Pachacutec and mysteriously abandoned a century later. Hidden for centuries by dense jungle and steep mountains, it was rediscovered in 1911 by American explorer Hiram Bingham.
Machu Picchu is renowned for its sophisticated dry-stone construction, precisely cut stones, and harmony with the surrounding landscape. The site includes temples, agricultural terraces, and ceremonial areas, all designed with incredible architectural skill and astronomical alignment. Surrounded by lush green peaks and misty clouds, it offers a mystical and awe-inspiring atmosphere that captivates visitors from around the world. Today, it stands as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, symbolizing the ingenuity and spiritual depth of the Inca civilization.
